February 15 to May 15, 2021

On Thursday, January 28, 2021, President Biden issued an executive order on health care that will create a new open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act. The new enrollment (usually set for December-November) is due to the pandemic. The open enrollment will start on February 15 and last for ninety days to May 15, 2021. The new actions are a change from the approach of the Trump Administration that had attempted to cut-back on the traditional enrollment periods down to six weeks. Last spring, Mr. Trump rejected an additional enrollment due to the pandemic. Trump had cut back on navigator and marketing funds by as much as 90 percent early in his Administration. The Biden E.O. deals with the national exchange that is used by two-thirds of states. His action will also restore some of the promotional funding, and ACA navigator efforts are intended to help and encourage more uninsured to sign up.
