When Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WS) became Speaker he left his powerful position on the House Ways and Means Committee and set in place a series of shifts and changes. In the end it means that the Human Resources Subcommittee, the key Subcommittee in the House when it comes to child welfare and welfare legislation, had several changes.  The most significant is a new Chair and member of the Subcommittee, Congressman Vern Buchanan (R-FL).  The shakeup of the Committee also means that a previous chair and member is returning, Congressman Dave Reichert (R-WA). The remainder of the subcommittee members include Congresswoman Kristi Noem (R-SD), Jason Smith (R-MO), Congressman Bob Dold (R-IL), Congressman Tom Rice (R-SC), Congressman Tom Reed (R-NY), The Democrats will remain the same with Congressman Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) as Ranking Member, Congressman John Lewis (D-GA), Congressman Joseph Crowley (D-IL) and Congressman Danny Davis (D-IL). Republicans who moved to other assignments include: Congressman and Chair Charles Bostany (R-LA), and Congressman Todd Young (R-IN).
