On Friday, September 22, President Biden announced the creation of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention. CWLA President & CEO, Christine James-Brown, released the following statement:

“As an organization with more than a century-long commitment to increasing the safety and well-being of families and communities, we at the Child Welfare League of America know the devasting impact that violence of any type has on individuals and communities alike. The increasing epidemic of gun violence has caused immeasurable trauma to our nation’s children, parents and caregivers, teachers, first responders, and many others.

Today’s announcement of the creation of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention acknowledges this impact that gun violence has had on our children, families, and communities. We are pleased to see the President step up and form this very important office. CWLA applauds the Administration and the advocates, survivors, and lawmakers that have steadfastly worked to elevate and address this issue. We also know that each and every one of us has a role in addressing this critical problem. The loss of the lives and innocence of a whole generation of children should instill urgency and spur us to action to create a better, safer nation.”
