This week, a bipartisan Dear Colleague letter was circulated in the House of Representatives by Congresswoman Haley Stevens (D-MI) and Elise Stefanik (R-NY), and Congressmen Frank Mrvan (D-IN), and Dusty Johnson (R-SD). As the Dear Colleague says:
Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the opioid crisis led to an increase in the number of children in foster care for five consecutive years. CAPTA is a critical lever in our federal efforts to address the impact of opioids and other substances on parents, children, and families. The virus has only added to challenges for families across the United States.
It is extremely important for our appropriations efforts that we get as many Republican and Democratic members of Congress to sign on. Please engage YOUR networks immediately and have them call or email their member of Congress. Click here to read the Appropriations letter. The deadline has been extended for members of Congress to sign on to Wednesday, April 21, so we need your help to get signatures! Click here to Contact Your Representative.
