Call for Nominations for 2008 Adoption Excellence Awards

4/23/2008:   More than a half million children live in foster care in the United States. Of these, 129,000 are awaiting permanent homes. The Adoption Excellence Awards, presented by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, have been awarded annually since 1997 to recognize individuals, families, states, tribes, and organizations that share and support HHS's priority for permanency for children in public foster care. The awards demonstrate HHS's national commitment to rebuilding the lives of children in foster care and provide national recognition to those who achieve permanency for those awaiting adoption.

HHS is seeking nominations for the 2008 Awards. Awards are presented in 10 catagories, and nominations must be received by COB, Friday, July 11, 2008.

For more information about the awards and past recipients visit the U.S. Children's Bureau website , or contact La Chundra Lindsey, at 202-205-8252 or lachundra.lindsey@acf.hhs.gov.
