Listen In on The Colorado Experience

4/24/2007:   Listen in on a free teleconference next week to learn more about how the Colorado Department of Human Services (DHS) has been working with education systems in the state to improve educational outcomes for children in the child welfare system.

The teleconference, Advocating for the Educational Needs of Children in Out-of-Home Care: The Colorado Experience, April 30 at 2:30 (EDT), will feature guest speakers from Colorado DHS and schools.

Colorado DHS launched a variety of activities to identify and resolve barriers to coordination between the child welfare and education systems. It has sponsored two statewide forums involving child welfare and education staff to share strategies for meeting children's needs. It has also developed and delivered training to child welfare supervisors and caseworkers on practical tools and resources that encourage a focus on educational issues as a part of regular casework practice.

Register online, by phone at 800/HELPKID, or by email at helpkids@usm.maine.edu. The National Child Welfare Resource Center for Organizational Improvement is sponsoring the teleconference.
