Listen to Public Discussion Series at Your Convenience

2/28/2007:   Last year, the Urban Institute and the University of Chicago's Chapin Hall Center for Children began cohosting monthly public policy forums called Thursday's Child. The public discussion series calls on the expertise of policy researchers at the two institutions and from around the nation to distill and discuss the latest insights into growing up in America.

The forums take place at the Washington, DC, headquarters of the Urban Institute, but traveling to the nation's capitol isn't necessary to listen in. Audio files of past forum discussions are available on the Urban Institute's website and you can listen to them from your computer or download them to an iPod or MP3 player.

Past Thursday's Child topics include

  • The nexus of youth homelessness and the child welfare system;
  • Making child care subsidies work for families;
  • Is there a new youth crime wave? Evidence and action;
  • Dads and husbands: promoting child well-being through father involvement and marriage programs;
  • Vulnerable youth and the transition to adulthood.

Register online for updates about future Thursday's Child forums.
