Conference Examines Substance Abuse and Child Welfare

11/8/2006:   Children and Family Futures and the Children's Research Triangle are hosting a conference this winter to identify and prioritize effective approaches to overcoming the cycle of addiction, neglect, and abuse among families. Registration is taking place now for Putting the Pieces Together for Children and Families: The National Conference on Substance Abuse, Child Welfare, and the Courts January 30-February 2, 2007, at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim, California.

Conference topics will include collaboration, funding and systems issues, family-based models for serving families with substance use disorders, and serving adolescent children of substance abusers. Prenatal substance exposure will be the subject of a preconference symposium, Behavior and the Brain: Prevention and Early Intervention Across the Developmental Stages, on January 30.

Attendance is open to the public. Representatives from multiple systems within one jurisdiction are strongly encouraged to attend to enhance the potential for collaboration following the conference. All attendees must register for the conference. Discounts on early registration are available through December 1.
