May 3: National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy

4/18/2006:   Despite declines in teen pregnancy and birthrates over the past 10 years, too many teens continue to think, "It won't happen to me." This is why the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, with support from Teen People magazine, is sponsoring the fifth annual National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy on May 3. The day gives teens the opportunity to focus on the importance of avoiding teen pregnancy and other serious consequences of sex.

Extensive information about the National Day is available online, including
  • how to order National Day materials, such as posters, post cards, wristbands, temporary tattoos, and pens,;

  • tips for getting teens involved; and

  • what states and communities have planned for 2006, and what they have done in the past.
Teens are also asked to take a short online quiz that asks them to reflect on the best course of action in a number of sexual situations. The quiz, available in English and Spanish, will debut on May 3 and remain available throughout May.
