Media Campaign Sends Message to Parents to "Teach Carefully"

10/13/2005:   At the center of the media campaign for Adults and Children Together Against Violence (ACT), a violence prevention project, is some simple adviceó"Remember you're always teaching. Teach carefully." ACT's national media campaign encourages parents and other adults to be positive role models and to teach children nonviolent ways to resolve conflict and handle anger.

Public service ads highlighting everyday situations that can cause anger in adults are accessible on ACT's website For example, one ad shows a close-up snapshot of a little girl that is accompanied by the text, "Every time you yell at your spouse, she learns a lesson." Another ad, also featuring a photo of an infant girl, reads, "Every time you scream at a driver, she learns a lesson." ACT's website also provides information about its Community Training Program, as well as links to more than 250 journal articles, book chapters, and other publications that address topics related to children, violence, and violence prevention.
