Helping Legislators Use CFSRs to Spark System Improvements

8/9/2005:   Legislation continues to be a major component in advancing the cause of child welfare. In May, the National Conference of State Legislatures released a report providing information to state child welfare agency administrators on effective strategies for using the Child and Family Services Reviews (CFSRs) to work more closely with legislators to improve child welfare systems.

The reviews are designed to determine the quality of welfare services each state is providing. The first round of reviews was conducted between late 2000 and early 2004. State legislators are urged to use the CFSRs as a resource for creating or modifying child welfare policies.
