Managing in Tough Times

7/14/2004:   In case you missed it, the January-February issue of Children's Voice highlighted the difficulties facing leaders of child welfare agencies in light of the economic environment over the last few years. William Atkinson's article took a close look at what some agencies are doing to continue serving the children in their community, focusing on the decisions executive directors are making and the alternatives they're pursuing. Of course, most organizations are cutting costs and reviewing strategic plans, but they're also exploring entrepreneurial options and focusing on advocacy to change community conditions rather than simply trying to fix problems that might have been prevented.
