American Bar Association Juvenile Justice Center

The Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention
The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act (Section 206) establishes the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention as an independent body within the Executive branch of the Federal Government. The Council's primary functions are to coordinate all Federal juvenile delinquency prevention programs, all Federal programs and activities that detain or care for unaccompanied juveniles, and all Federal programs relating to missing and exploited children.

National Center for Juvenile Justice

University of Colorado Center for the Study and Prevention Of Violence
The Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence (CSPV) was founded in 1992 with a grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York to provide informed assistance to groups committed to understanding and preventing violence, particularly adolescent violence. Since that time, our mission has expanded to encompass violence across the life course.

This report documents a juvenile justice system that is "separate but unequal" and reveals sharp racial disparities. It advocates for a nationwide effort to identify the causes of this differential treatment of minority youth and a concerted campaign to provide a fair and equal justice system for our youth.

The Color of Justice
This study is the first analysis of racial and ethnic disparity in the transfer of youths to adult court and sentencing to CYA facilities in California. Like previous studies on racial disparity in the criminal justice system, this study reveals imbalances that are stark and vast.

Youth Crime/Adult Time: Is Justice Served?
This report takes an in-depth look at the prosecution of minority youth in criminal court and raises serious questions about the fairness and appropriateness of prosecuting youth in the adult criminal justice system.
