Ohio Association of Child and Youth Care Professionals
Ohio is one of a limited number of states in the country that offers Child and Youth Care Worker registration and certification. The registration and certification program is administered by the Ohio Association of Child and Youth Care Professionals, Inc. as a service to child and youth care workers in the state of Ohio. The Ohio Association of Child and Youth Care Professionals, Inc., has been offering certification for child and youth care workers for almost 20 years. One level of registration and two levels of certification are offered. These are registration and certification for direct care workers, and one certification for supervisors.
The Ohio Association believes that registration and certification are a reflection of a commitment to service, education and training that distinguishes professional child care workers from others in the field. Registration and certification are granted to practitioners in the field for a period of three years and require renewal in order to maintain an active status. Both registration and certification require the candidate to complete an application process and specific levels of training in the Core Competencies for Child and Youth Care Workers.
Developed by Ruby Johnson for Manitoba, Canada, Core training includes almost 190 hours of classroom instruction in the skills and knowledge to become a successful child and youth care worker.
We believe that registration is the first step towards becoming a professional child and youth care worker. We believe that certification is a professional credential given to those who display excellence in child care work. All correspondence and questions should be directed to:
