The Children's Defense Fund (CDF) is a nonprofit research and advocacy organization that provides a strong, effective voice for children, who cannot vote, lobby, or speak out for themselves. CDF pays particular attention to the needs of poor, minority, and disabled children. CDF's goal is to educate the nation about the needs of children and encourage prevention and investment in children before they get sick, drop out of school, suffer damage, break down, or get into trouble.

The Center for the Child Care Workforce (CCW), part of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), is a nonprofit resource and advocacy organization committed to improving the quality of child care through upgrading the compensation and training of child care teachers and providers. CCW is recognized as the national resource clearinghouse on child care staffing issues, as well as a leader in advocating for better regulation and funding of child care services. In addition, CCW serves as the national coordinator of the Worthy Wage Campaign, a grassroots effort to empower child care workers themselves to fight for solutions to the staffing crisis. CCW's goal is to create a unified, powerful voice for the child care work force, advocating for fair and decent employment for caregivers and reliable, affordable care for families.

Created in 1995, the Child Care Bureau is part of the Administration on Children, Youth, and Families within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

The Child Care Bureau is dedicated to enhancing the quality, affordability, and supply of child care available for all families. The bureau administers federal funds to atates, territories, and tribes to assist low-income families in accessing quality child care for children while parents work or participate in education or training. The Child Care Bureau administers the Child Care and Development Fund and provides technical assistance to the nation on a variety of topics related to child care.

The National Child Care Information Center (NCCIC) was established by the U.S. Child Care Bureau to complement, enhance, and promote child care linkages and to serve as a mechanism for supporting quality, comprehensive services for children and families. NCCIC disseminates child care information to states, territories, and tribes; policymakers; parents; programs; organizations; providers; and the public resources, promising practices, federal grants, and programs at the state and tribal levels.

The National Head Start Association (NHSA) is the membership organization representing Head Start parents, staff, directors, and friends nationwide. The Maternal and Child Health Bureau's National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care seeks to enhance the quality of child care by supporting state and local health departments, child care regulatory agencies, child care providers, and parents in their efforts to promote health and safety in child care. The National Resource Center achieves this goal through information services, training and technical assistance to support regional, state, and local initiatives; conferences for sharing experiences and knowledge; and development and distribution of resource materials.

CWLA and the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) are partners in Get Ready to Read! (GRTR!), NCLD's national initiative to build the early literacy skills of preschool-age children. GRTR! provides an easy-to-administer, research-based screening tool to early childhood educators, child care providers, and parents to help them prepare all children to learn to read and write.

GRTR!'s vision is that all preschool children will have the skills they need to learn to read when they enter school. GRTR!'s website provides parents, educators, health care professionals, and advocates with information to help build early literacy skills by integrating emergent literacy screening and learning activities into routine early childhood education, child care, and parenting practices.

NAEYC is a nonprofit professional organization of more than 90,000 members dedicated to improving the quality of care and education provided to our nation's young children. The Association administers the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, a voluntary, national, accreditation system for high-quality early childhood programs, and the National Institute for Early Childhood Professional Development, which provides resources and services to improve professional preparation and development of early childhood educators and fosters development of a comprehensive, articulated system of high-quality professional development opportunities. In addition to the bimonthly journal Young Children, NAEYC also publishes an extensive array of books, brochures, videotapes, and posters.

NAEYC's primary goals of improving the professional practice of early childhood education and building public understanding and support for high quality early childhood programs are shared and implemented by a national network of more than 450 Affiliate Groups. For 25 years NAEYC has sponsored the Week of the Young Child to focus public attention on the rights and needs of young children.

NACCRRA is a national membership organization of more than 400 community child care resource and referral agencies (CCR&Rs) in all 50 states. NACCRRA's mission is to promote the growth and development of quality resource and referral services and to exercise leadership to build a diverse, quality child care system with parental choice and equal access for all families. The CCR&Rs it represents are the only portion of the child care delivery system thta maintains daily contact with both parents and child care providers in hundreds of local communities. The National School-Age Care Alliance (NSACA) is a membership organization of individuals and groups. Members range from state affiliates with hundreds of individual and group members to individual school-age child care staff who are new to the field and seek affiliation with a professional organization.
