Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (Child Care Tax Credit)

The Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (DCTC) is intended to offset a portion of child or dependent care costs incurred by working families. This credit is worth up to $2,100, but the money cannot be refunded, only deducted from a family's federal income tax liability. Twenty-eight states have additional Child and Dependent Care Tax provisions and in thirteen states, these credits are refundable. The National Women's Law Center's annual Tax Credits Outreach Campaign website includes information on both the federal and state DCTCs. Visit their site to learn more: www.nwlc.org/LowerYourTaxes.
