February 27, 2007, Washington, DC -- Washington, DC - The Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) is pleased to announce Greg Floyd, evening news anchor at WRGB CBS 6 in Schenectady, NY as the 2007 recipient of its Champion for Children award. The award will be presented on February 27 at a dinner at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC.
Each year CWLA presents an award to that individual who has made a difference in a child's life and/or who has dedicated their work to helping and encouraging children. "Greg Floyd is an excellent example of an individual whose compassion and commitment is revealed in his reporting on the needs of vulnerable children on the nightly news," said Linda Spears, CWLA vice president for corporate communications and development.
Greg has worked with Northeast Parent & Child Society to help educate the public about programs and services to keep children safe. This past summer Greg profiled a student at Northeast Parent & Child Society whose mother passed away and who had a sister in jail for murder. The segment discussed the help given to the boy by the agency and his plans to attend college in the fall using scholarships he had earned. The young boy is also mentoring other youth in similar situations. Ever the champion, Greg promised his viewers he would do follow-up stories on the youth's progress in college.
Since 1920, the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) has been the nation's pre-eminent organization dedicated to ensuring that disadvantaged and vulnerable children are protected from harm and have the tools and resources they need to grow into the healthy and happy adults we want them to become. CWLA is the trusted authority for professionals who work with children and the only national organization with members from both public and private agencies, providing unique access and influence to all sectors of the children's services field.
