April 20, 2005, Washington, DC -- Please join us outside the IDEA Public Charter School for a morning of poetry, music, and the raising of the Children's Memorial Flag to recognize children lost to abuse and neglect.

What:
In December 2004, the IDEA Public Charter School was damaged in a vicious arson attack leaving the school's students devastated, but determined to recover. As a part of the continued healing process, the students will participate in a Children's Memorial Flag Day ceremony outside the school building in Northeast Washington, DC, April 22. IDEA Public Charter School students will commit themselves to nonviolence and honor local children lost to abuse or neglect by reading poetry, singing songs, and holding a candlelight vigil during a ceremony hosted by the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA).

Artist and activist Xavier Cortada (www.cortada.com) will also unveil an original mural for the IDEA School to display for 10 years. The mural will include writings and drawings from IDEA students and nationwide supporters of the Children's Memorial Flag.
