August 1, 2004, Washington, DC -- Robert J. Danzig, former chief executive of The
Hearst Newspapers, has been honored by ForeWord magazine for his
books Every Child Deserves a Champion and There Is Only One
You.
ForeWord Magazine is a literary review trade journal devoted to
covering independent pr sses, ranging in size from university
presses to micro and eBook publishers who publish with less
frequency.
The magazine honored Every Child Deserves a Champion with
its book of the year (gift book category) bronze award. There Is
Only One You was a finalist in the competition.
Both books were published by Child & Family Press, the
publishing arm of the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA).
After 20 years as head of The Hearst Newspapers, Danzig retired
in 1998. He grew up in foster homes and has devoted his new career
to helping other foster children, caregivers, and social workers
nationwide by sharing the messages through these two books and
demonstrating through speaking appearances how others can influence
the lives of those in the foster care community.
According to the most recent data available from the U.S.
Children's Bureau, across the nation, approximately 542,000
children and young people are living in the custody of state foster
care agencies because their parents are unable or unwilling to care
for them.
Danzig's net royalties from book sales are being donated to a
charity he and his wife developed to offer college assistance to
foster children.
