February 17, 2004, Washington, DC -- Citizens Financial Group, a financial services provider operating in seven states as Citizens Bank, has been named a Corporate Friend of Children by the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA). Citizens was selected for its outstanding commitment to and support of programs and services that sustain and serve the community.
Shay Bilchik, CWLA's President & CEO, said, "We are extraordinarily pleased to present this Corporate Friend of Children award to Citizens Financial Group. In today's business environment, it is especially important to recognize corporations that embody the philosophy of corporate social responsibility. Citizens' active involvement at the community level, through programs such as the Community Service Sabbatical and the Community Champions Program, demonstrate that Citizens has truly brought the belief in doing well by doing good home to its employees. "
The award will be presented to Citizens Financial Group at a dinner on February 24, 2004, during CWLA's national conference in Washington, DC. The annual dinner attracts over 1,200 child advocates, representatives from Capitol Hill, national child-serving organizations, foster parents, and child welfare professionals from across the country.
Citizens Financial Group was nominated to receive this award by Children's Friend and Service in Rhode Island. Citizens helped the agency complete a capital campaign to build a new, 19,000-square-foot Family Support Center in Central Falls, Rhode Island's poorest city. Once the building was completed in 2000, Citizens continued its commitment to support Children's Friend and Service in its mission of improving the life chances of Rhode Island's most vulnerable children. Citizens continues to be a lead supporter of the agency's fundraising events, including its annual Walk for Children. Two Citizens Vice Presidents serve on Children's Friend and Services' Board of Directors.
In nominating Citizens for this award, Executive Director of Children's Friend, Lenette Azzi-Lessing, noted the remarkable work performed by Citizens Bank of Rhode Island. "Citizens is truly deserving of this prestigious award from CWLA. Their unwavering support and commitment to the children and families that Children's Friend and Service serves has been nothing short of inspiring."
Joseph MarcAurele, President and CEO of Citizens Bank of Rhode Island, said, "We are proud to receive this award from CWLA. At Citizens Bank, we're not just a community bank, we're part of the community. We are deeply committed to addressing the needs of our neighbors."
