CWLA's 2003 Salary Study is now available free to all members on the Members Only site (http://www.cwla.org/membersonly). Print copies were mailed to every member last year, but now you can also review the electronic version on your desktop.
As you might expect, this year's study shows that compensation has not kept pace with inflation or increasing wages in other sectors of the economy, making retention and recruitment quite difficult. But child welfare agencies are performing much better in terms of benefits, including flexibility regarding work location and scheduling. More than two-thirds of the private agencies reported the availability of tuition assistance to support employees working to increase their skills and credentials. As in previous years, the 2003 Salary Study includes dozens of tables, figures, and charts analyzing compensation and benefits data by region, agency budget, and agency type. So if you're about to discuss funding issues with your board or local politicians, the 2003 Salary Study is a great tool to help make your case.
