Casa de Amparo is a nonprofit founded in 1978 to intervene on behalf of abused, abandoned or neglected children and their families. Its Mission is to support those affected by, or are at risk of, child abuse and/or neglect through a range of programs and services that promote healing, growth and healthy relationships. The organization currently offers 6 distinct programs, available countywide to the public and via referrals from County Child Welfare Services, delivered from three locations in northern San Diego County. Ninety employees and 150 volunteers are engaged in support of the organization’s service delivery. The annual operating budget is over $5 million. Approximately one third of the funds are the result of the organization’s fundraising efforts and the rest are secured via state and local government contracts. Casa de Amparo recently completed a $16 million capital construction project and is in new modern facilities. The organization places high value on carrying out the Mission with the utmost integrity and “going the extra mile” to provide care and services that exceed expectations of donors, contracts and regulations. The culture is one of mutual respect, openness, unity of purpose and determination among and between the Board, Board Committees, key management and frontline staff. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The Executive Director is accountable to the executive committee of the board and assures that program & service delivery, fiscal, fundraising and personnel activities are carried out in a professional, effective, accurate and timely manner, in compliance with the organization’s Mission & Strategic Plan, and with applicable legal and/or regulatory requirements. The Executive Director is an ex-officio member of the Board of Directors/Board Committees and is actively engaged in key manager recruitment, education & development, budget development & control, strategic planning, decision-making, program development, fundraising and public relations. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Eight or more years senior management experience in a nonprofit social service organization. Solid, hands-on, fiscally conservative, budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting. Masters level degree in Administrative Social Work, Public Administration or alternative behavioral science from a traditional, campus-based and accredited university. Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation. Ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers and donors (Mission driven and within objectives of Strategic Plan) Understanding of Child Welfare research, public delivery systems and issues, regulations that affect children & families. Knowledge of non-profit corporation’s legal/fiscal/regulatory requirements Strong written and oral communication skills Significant management experience including, interviewing, hiring, staff evaluation and willingness to actively engage with employees Active fundraising experience, an understanding of nonprofit fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector. Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups Demonstrated appreciation for staff, solicitation/incorporation of their input. Strong public speaking ability. Transparent and high integrity leadership. Desirable: Five or more years experience working in residential services for children. Familiar with local historical development/current status of San Diego County Child Welfare system and Health & Human Services. Knowledge of the California Child Welfare System and issues, regulations that affect children & families. Experience developing and writing contract and grant applications. Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
