Job Description:  

POSITION: Child Care Worker/Program Aide
CATEGORY OF EMPLOYMENT: Hourly/Non Exempt
POSITION RESPONSIBLE TO:
Unit Treatment Director (when assigned in cottage), Principal (when assigned to school)
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Interact with residents/students in a developmentally appropriate manner
2. Accompany resident/students to and from destinations as necessary.
3. Assure that established routines are followed, for example: supervising meals and participating in recreational and physical education activities.
4. Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and order in the living unit/classroom.
5. Participate in treatment process for assigned youngsters.
6. Encourage and support youngsters in their academic pursuits.
7. Maintain a log/utilize incident report process as appropriate/record daily and weekly inventive grades.
8. Assure that administrative and/or departmental directive are enforced.
9. Demostrate understanding of roles of other personnel in the interdisciplinary team approach setting.
10. Other duties as requested.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Work with adolescents with cultural and social differences
2. Work effectively as a member of a team.
3. Demonstrate knowledge of basic principles of child care and education.
4. Establish relationships with children and adolescents on a group and individual basis, gaining their trust and confidence.
5. Physically intervene and restrain residents/students, male and female, as necessary.
6. Work cooperatively with others.
7. Operate agency vehicles and retain a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
8. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor’s Degree in a human service field
2. Certification in Basic First Aid and CPR required – will be obtained during the orientation period.
OTHER
Performance will be reviewed 6 months after date of hire and annually thereafter.
Probationary period is 6 months.
Basic Schedule – 40 Hours per week A.M. When school is not in session, Child Care Workers/Program Aides will be assigned ot work in a cottage; hours will be determined by cottage supervisor, based on agency needs. Authorized work hours in excess of 40 per week will be compensatied for in overtime pay.
2 Weeks vacation leave a year is to be taken either in June, between the end of the school year and Summer Program, or in August between summer program and the start of the school year.
Scheduled to work Holidays at double-time rate unless Cottage Supervisor determines otherwise.
