Job Description:

Provide support to Family Support Services, Nassau in the areas of education for dependency children. Additionally, this position supports the Sheriff’s backpack reading program in Nassau and a variety of FSS initiatives.
Education Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required, focus in education preferred. Experience Two years experience in the educational system required, preferably in a teaching role. Minimum Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to: • Be organized and detail oriented. • Read and interpret documents such as contracts, manuals, journals, and financial reports. • Communicate effectively with staff. • Write reports, and correspondence. • Speak effectively before small and large groups. • Calculate figures and amounts. • Create budgets. • Solve problems and deal with a variety of variables with minimum direction. • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form.
Knowledge of: • Administrative functions within the Nassau County school system. • Fundraising. • Dependency system and proceedings preferred. • Local state and federal laws that govern education. • Microsoft Office programs. Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration Valid driver’s license. Other Requirements • Clear a Level II background screening. • Clear a local background check from the County in which you reside. • Clear a substance abuse screen. • Clear a Motor Vehicle Records check. • Maintain and provide proof of auto insurance coverage of $100,000/$300,000. • Provide a copy of all degrees prior to your first day of employment.
Job Duties Essential Duties % of Time Monitor the educational needs of the children under FSS’s care in Nassau County and to make recommendations to amend the interagency agreement between FSS and the Nassau County School Board 5% Monitor, facilitate and consult with FSCs in special interest areas, caregivers and service providers to maintain compliance with FSS’s policies and procedures and its system of care related to educational services 10% Provides advanced knowledge and expertise in the local state and federal laws that govern education in child welfare, acts as an expert in community resources and educational best practices; participates in meetings, activities, and initiatives at local, state, and national organizations to enhance the interaction between FSS and NCSB; advocates for educational and school based services for clients and resolves client’s problems 10% Monitors tutoring and mentoring services; coordinates services with other local and state mentoring programs 5% Work with local, state and national public and private educational agencies to help lead the efforts to develop alliances and expand programs and services for FSS 50% Prepares professional papers and reports on research projects for presentation. 10% Build and maintain good community relations; promote a positive image of FSS in the community; initiate opportunities for strategic alliances 10% Other Duties Attend job related trainings, meetings, events and participate in special projects as assigned.
