THE FUTURE OF RESOURCE PARENT EDUCATION IS HERE!

New Generation PRIDE Model of Practice
Implementation of Hybrid Training

A Competency-Based Model of Practice to Develop and Support Resource
(Foster and Adoptive) Parents As Team Members in Child Protection
and the Trauma Informed Care of Children

South San Francisco, CA
Monday - Friday, June 1 - 5, 2015
9:00 AM - 4:30 PM

Overview: Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) and FosterParentCollege.com are collaborating to strengthen the quality of family foster care and adoption services by providing a new generation of the PRIDE Model of Practice to develop resource (foster and adoptive) parents as team members in child protection and the trauma informed care of children. The next generation of the PRIDE Model of Practice pre-service preparation and assessment program integrates the strengths of in-person group sessions, family assessment (home study) consultations, and online self-paced training to meet the needs of diverse families and agency resources. This training opportunity features innovative, cost-effective strategies with proven effective techniques, interactive vignettes, and examples from the field. The hybrid in-person/on-line approach builds upon the five PRIDE Model of Practice competency categories: protecting and nurturing children; meeting developmental needs and addressing developmental delays; supporting children’s relationships with birth families; connecting children to safe and nurturing relationships intended to last a lifetime; and working as a member of a professional team. Major benefits include decreasing the number of in-person sessions (cost, travel and time-saving), increasing the quality and standardization of training, and strengthening family assessment.

Participants and Facilitators: This training is designed for public and private agency staff and resource parents who are responsible for the recruitment, assessment, pre-service training, and selection of foster and adoptive parents, and for foster parent retention. Participants in the New Generation PRIDE Model of Practice training will be of most benefit to their agencies if they come with basic family assessment and training skills, and the expectation that they will share and implement what is learned when they return.  A team with expertise in the PRIDE Model of Practice development and implementation will facilitate. For additional background information, please visit PRIDE Model of Practice.
