Pride Internaional Roundtable
February 27 - 29, 2008
Washington, DC
Program Description
The PRIDE Roundtable is an opportunity for colleagues around the world to share experiences, ideas, and innovations, and plan future directions regarding the PRIDE program. This Roundtable is also open to individuals and organizations that are considering implementing the program and would like to learn about the international experiences of others. Objectives for our highly interactive Roundtable are to: (1) promote both formal and informal discussions; (2) foster the transfer of learning among participants; and (3) learn from presentations on PRIDE innovations, with both small and large group discussions on topics of interest identified by the group
PRIDE colleagues from public and private agencies and organizations from Canada, Europe, and the United States will be participating. Participants will have an opportunity to meet with some of the developers of the PRIDE program, dating back to the early 1990's, including Eileen Mayers Pasztor, Mick Polowy, and Joanne Mathews; and meet Rob van Pagee from the Netherlands who pioneered the transfer of PRIDE from the USA to other countries. The tentative program follows, as the final agenda will be shaped by participants based on discussions on the first afternoon.

2:30 pm - 6:00 pm
Welcome and introductions (2:30 pm- 5:00 pm)
Facilitated by Maureen Leighton from the Child Welfare League of America and Rob van Pagee from the Op Kleine Schall, participants will have an opportunity to learn about their colleagues. Each organization will be asked to briefly describe a success they would like to share and identify an issue they would like to have discussed during the meeting. Based on topics identified during the introduction, the group will decide on the subjects for the small group sessions to be held on the following days. Selections may include topics such as: recruitment of families for teens; conducting family assessments; reaching applicants in rural areas; handling situations where prospective families miss training sessions; meeting the needs of diverse or multi-cultural populations; and creating an organizational culture/climate that supports the PRIDE Model of Practice.
Get acquainted reception (5:00 pm- 6:00 pm)
Sponsored by the San Felipe Humanitarian Alliance (SFHA), the reception is open to all participants. SFHA was the major supporter of the PRIDE videos, under the leadership of its director, the late Robert (Bob) Del Conte. The current director, Michele Del Conte, will provide greetings from the SFHA, and speak to Bob's vision for fostering that dates back for many decades. The reception will provide a relaxing environment to begin or continue conversations, building on the welcome and introductory afternoon.
Following the reception, participants who are interested can join as a group to go out to dinner at a local restaurant. (The cost of dinner is not included in the registration fee.)

A representative from Casey has been invited to describe a teamwork approach and projects underway in several states to bring about this shift in practice.
