Practice
Lunch included, additional registration fee required: $75 for

CWLA, the National Center on Substance Abuse and Child Welfare
(NCSACW), and the California Evidence-Based Clearinghouse for Child Welfare (CEBC) are pleased to invite administrators of public and
private child welfare organizations, professionals in the abuse of alcohol
and other drugs (AOD), behavioral health and juvenile justice services,
agency managers, family advocates, program planners, and caseworkers
to explore current research and best practices in AOD and
child welfare interventions.
This day-long institute begins with Nancy K. Young, Director of
the NCSACW, providing a review of the practice and policy implications
of parental substance use disorders on child welfare practice,
including an overview of substance use patterns and child safety.
Particular focus is on methamphetamine use, child safety issues, and
permanency. Charles Wilson, CEBC Director, and Laine Alexandra,
Project Director for the CEBC, introduce the Clearinghouse, its rating
process, and recent findings in parent training, parental substance
abuse, and trauma treatment for children. Program experts then discuss
emerging trends in practice and intervention models.
