Opening General SessionWelcome to Children 2007: Raising Our Voices for ChildrenDr. George W. Swan, III, Board Chair, CWLADr. George W. Swan III serves as President of the Eastern Campus for Wayne County Community College District. Educated in the Detroit Public Schools, Dr. Swan earned three degrees from Wayne State University, including a master's degree in educational sociology and a doctorate in higher education administration and organizational studies. Before joining Wayne County Community College District in 1987 as Assistant Executive Dean/Director of Community Relations at the Downriver Campus, Dr. Swan served as senior administrator and faculty member at Lewis College of Business and as an administrator at Wayne State University. In 2001, Dr. Swan was appointed Interim Provost of the Downriver Campus and became President of the Eastern Campus in December of that year. In addition to his service on CWLA's board, where he has been a member since 1993, Dr. Swan serves on numerous other national and local boards. CWLA's new CEO discusses CWLA's mission, our commitment to this nation's most vulnerable children and families, and how important it is to raise our voices on their behalf.
