Third Annual Executive Leadership Institute
A Special Program within CWLA's National Conference
Changing Expectations: Reinventing Our Service Delivery System
The Executive Leadership Institute has reached its maximum number of participants. Please consider
registering instead for other workshops or the Super Session.
If you wish to be placed on a waiting list in case a current registrant cancels, please contact Sharron
Hill at shill@cwla.org. You will be notified if an opening occurs. If no openings become available, you
have your choice of 25 other workshops in each of three time slots and one Wednesday morning
Super Session panel.
The Executive Leadership Institute (ELI) offers CEOs, board members, and other executive staff opportunities to strengthen their leadership skills in
learning activities designed and delivered by their peers. The ELI features its own special keynote address and five stimulating sessions, each
including brief presentations, case examples, and dialogue. ELI participants must also be registered for the CWLA National Conference Children
2007: Raising Our Voices for Children, and ELI participants will take part in major components of Children 2007. In addition, ELI offers registrants
ample opportunities to network and share ideas with fellow leaders. See registration information below.

Executive Leadership
Institute Opening:
The Future of Children's Services
For more than 85 years, CWLA has demonstrated
its national leadership on behalf of children
and families, and has identified future national
trends that will increasingly impact services to
children and families. An interactive presentation
of future trends will open this year's
Executive Leadership Institute.
3:30-5:00 P.M.
Session I:
The Future of Children's Services:
Implications for Boards and
Governance
Future expectations for board members will
include heightened accountability, involvement,
and transparency. A vibrant board
requires the recruitment of new members,
including younger professionals and those not
typically attracted to a "charity mission." This
session explores ways that small, mid-sized,
and large agencies have begun to transform
their boards.
5:00-6:30 P.M.

Session II: The Future of Children's Services:
Implications for the Workforce
Changing demographics continue to challenge
agencies in their efforts to recruit
and retain qualified frontline workers and
middle managers. These same agencies
also struggle with ways to develop leaders
to succeed retiring executives. This session
highlights some options for addressing
these challenges.

Session III: The Future of Children's Services:
Implications of Privatization
One could arguably make the case that a
"privatization hysteria" is sweeping across
the country. This session presents data
gathered from a one-year analysis of agencies
and their activities. Participants will
then share their perspectives and the steps
taken in their agencies to assure future
growth and survival.
10:30 A.M.-NOON
Session IV: The Future of Children's Services:
Implications for Your Agency
Drawing on the lessons learned during
this leadership institute, participants will
have the opportunity to discuss the impact
and implications of these future trends for
their agencies.
