Announcing CWLA's 2009 National Conference Awards
Every year at its National Conference in Washington, DC, CWLA presents a series of awards recognizing the accomplishments and contributions by committed individuals and organizations on behalf of children and families and their communities. The 2009 awards will be presented at our National Conference, February 25-27, 2009.
Announcing CWLA's New Fostering Educational Success Award
The Fostering Educational Success Award recognizes a college, university, or other accredited post-secondary education or training institution that excels in promoting educational success for current and former foster youth by providing a learning and living environment that is healthy, safe, nurturing, and supportive. Candidates should show exceptional leadership and demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to a comprehensive array of programmatic, financial, and other resources that help students who have been in placed in foster care successfully complete post-secondary learning.
The Anna Quindlen Awards for Excellence in Journalism in Behalf of Children and Families
The Anna Quindlen Awards for Excellence in Journalism in Behalf of Children and Families were established in 1995 to recognize individuals in the field of journalism--print reporters, editorial writers, and broadcast news teams--whose coverage of child welfare issues advances knowledge and understanding of the state of vulnerable children and families in America. Each year, two awards are given, one for print and the other for broadcast. Candidates for this award must have covered relevant issues during 2007 and, as a result of their work, produced positive change for children and families. Nominations are accepted from CWLA member agencies, print and broadcast journalists, media trade publications, and the general public.
The Dr. Alexander Gralnick Award
The Gralnick Award recognizes exemplary work in research on, treatment of, or advocacy for children and adolescents with schizophrenia. The award is presented every two years; the winner is announced at CWLA's National Conference in Washington, DC. The individual or organization selected for the Gralnick Award receives a $10,000 cash prize, transportation to and from Washington, DC, hotel costs while in DC, and an opportunity to present a summary of the work being recognized at the CWLA National Conference. Individuals and organizations may nominate themselves or be nominated by others.
The Kids to Kids National Service Awards
The Kids to Kids National Service Awards celebrate the accomplishments of children and youth who have made outstanding contributions to their communities. The awards provide CWLA with an opportunity to hear from children and young people firsthand about the impact that community service has had on their lives. This year's contest will focus on what children and young people are doing to create a brighter future for themselves and others. Nominations are accepted from CWLA member agencies and the general public.
The National Corporate Advocate of the Year Award
The National Corporate Advocate of the Year Award recognizes one company for its outstanding, unparalleled, commitment to children, youth, and families. A representative from the Corporate Advocate of the Year is invited to attend the National Conference to accept the award in person. The award aims to establish a dialogue between CWLA and the corporation for continued involvement in protecting America's children, youth, and families. Nominations are accepted from CWLA member agencies only.
The National Corporate Friend of Children Awards
The National Corporate Friend of Children Awards recognize a number of corporations for their outstanding commitment to children, youth, and families. Representatives from each Corporate Friend of Children are invited to attend the National Conference to accept the award in person. The Corporate Friend of Children Awards aim to establish a dialogue between CWLA and the corporations for continued involvement in protecting America's children, youth, and families. Nominations are accepted from CWLA member agencies only.
National Rural Service Award
CWLA recognizes the many challenges rural, frontier, and tribal communities face in delivering quality social services to children, youth, and families in the midst of higher poverty rates, fewer resources, and reduced access to services. The National Rural Service Award highlights the work of one individual, agency, or organization whose accomplishments have notably benefited rural children, youth, and their families.
