Mike Kanarick and Liz Kleinberg Hike the AT benefiting Child Welfare League of America.

Mike Kanarick received his BA in Government from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH and later earned his Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law in New York. He has served as Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Alabama, aided several prominent federal judges in Alabama as a law clerk and is no stranger to the campaign trail, having worked for Clinton/Gore in '96 and McGreevey for Governor in New Jersey in '97. He has served campaigns in many capacities including Finance Director for the New Jersey Democratic State Committee. Mike has been a member of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman's staff, serving as Director of Communications and Press Secretary from Feb. 2002 until Jan. 2003.

Elizabeth Kleinberg earned her BA at Cornell, and her Masters and Juris Doctor at Columbia University in New York. She spent her law school years assisting the American Civil Liberties Union, and the NYCLU before beginning her career as an attorney. Her interest in social justice has led her to do pro bono work for clients in need and become a Law Fellow with the Southern Poverty Law Center in Montgomery. Her position before deciding to join Mike on the Appalachian Trail was with the Honorable Ed. Carnes, United States Circuit Court Judge of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Montgomery.

With 6 months ahead on the trail and no definite plans when they return, the young couple looks forward to the future with hope. Their home in Montgomery will be cared for by friends, and family will provide them with food drops and some hot showers as they approach the northern end of the trail, where they grew up. Mike and Liz have always been active in social rights, and believe that people need to help each other along the way. They look forward to receiving support and friendship along the trail and are proud to be walking for the Child Welfare League of America.
