Shay Bilchik and the National Collaboration for Youth Support Introduction of the Federal Youth Coordination Act
Shay Bilchik, President and CEO of the Child Welfare League of America, represented the National Collaboration for Youth at a press conference on February 16, 2005 to announce the introduction of the Federal Youth Coordination Act (FYCA) at the Capitol in Washington, DC. Mr. Bilchik is the chairperson of the National Collaboration for Youth, which has lead the effort in support of this legislation. Comprised of more than forty national, non-profit, youth development organizations, the mission of the National Collaboration for Youth is to provide a united voice as advocates for youth to improve the conditions of young people in America, and to help young people reach their full potential.
The Federal Youth Coordination Act was introduced by Senator Norm Coleman (R-MN) and Representatives Tom Osborne (R-NE) and Donald Payne (D-NJ), who joined Mr. Bilchik at the press conference. Other co-sponsors include Senators Mike DeWine (R-OH) and Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Representatives Harold Ford (D-TN) and Peter Hoekstra (R-MI). FYCA establishes a federal council to coordinate and oversee all federal programs related to youth.
