Final Push- More Calls Needed Early This Week
Last Push to Pass FINAL Budget Bill that Could Cut Foster Care - Calls Needed To Keep Opposition Strong!
Your calls, emails, and visits during the "No Caps on Kids Campaign!" have made a difference. While the House and Senate have each passed their own versions, there is still not an agreement on what will be included in a final budget bill that will be voted on by both the Senate and the House. However, congressional leaders have vowed to complete action on a final budget reconciliation bill before adjourning for the holidays.
The House budget reconciliation bill reduces Title IV-E federal foster care funding by nearly $600 million, which will severely limit supports for children who have been abused and neglected and are now living with grandparents or other relatives. The Senate bill rejected any cuts to Title IV-E. This is set to be one of the differences that will be reconciled in the final bill.
Our task now is to undertake a final push this week to make sure that your U.S. Representative and Senators do not approve a final budget reconciliation bill that contains foster care cuts. Unless congressional leaders hear from advocates about the impact of these cuts, the House provisions could be included in the final bill.
ACTION REQUIRED:
- Call your U.S. Representative and Senators this week. You can call toll-free at 800-426-8073 or you can call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at 202-225-3121 and ask to be connected to the offices of your Senators and Representative.
Once you make your call, please send this Legislative Alert to others you know who care about children and families, and urge them to take similar action.
MESSAGE:
- Ensure that foster care cuts are not included in the final budget reconciliation bill.
Thank you for your continued advocacy.
