LEGISLATIVE ALERT4/6/2010Join the White House Conference CampaignFor the White House Conference on Children and Youth to become a reality the President and Congress will have to act on legislation (HR 618 & S 938)!
April is Prevent Child Abuse Month. To recognize this month we are building the momentum to reconvene the White House Conference on Children and Youth. We ask CWLA members to join us in an on-going campaign throughout the month of April. Below are some steps to take to join us in this exciting endeavor. ***WEEK 1 (April 5th): CALL your Representative*** This week we want EVERYONE to call their Member of Congress. To contact your Members of Congress, dial (202) 224-3121 and use the script below. The operator who answers the phone will ask to which Senator or Representative you would like to speak. To find out who your Representative is, click here. SCRIPT When you're connected to an office, tell the staffer who answers the phone: Hi, my name is (state your name) and I’m a constituent (If you are also a parent, child care provider, community leader, etc., feel free to mention that as well). I am calling because I believe that it is time to reconvene the White House Conference on Children and Youth. I would like to ask the Representative to support and/or cosponsor HR 618. BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE: Don't forget to sign-on to the call for the White House Conference on Children and Youth as an agency joining more than 800 other organizations. Not all CWLA agencies have signed on, so if you are a member but have yet to do so, join us today! BACKGROUND ON THE WHITE HOUSE CONFERENCE 4-WEEKS-IN-APRIL CAMPAIGN *WEEK 1 (April 5th): CALL your Representative *Week 2 (April 12) SEND a postcard (and ask others) to the President asking him to endorse and sign into law HR 618/S 938 and then issue the call for a White House Conference on Children and Youth (target mailing date is April 15).
