LEGISLATIVE ALERT

6/17/2008

Join a Special CWLA Conference Call

New Child Welfare Legislation filed by Rep. McDermott!

CWLA invites you to join a special conference call regarding new federal child welfare legislation.

Tomorrow, Congressman Jim McDermott (WA) and Congressman Jerry Weller (IL) are expected to introduce the Fostering Connections to Success Act, a comprehensive child welfare bill. This legislation is expected to:

- Extend support for kinship care
- Provide a state option to extend foster care to age 21
- Extend training to private agencies
- Provide tribes direct access to Title IV-E funds
- Require greater health planning for children in care
- Require greater coordination of on-going education for foster children
- Reauthorize the adoption incentives program

CWLA is hosting a conference call to give you the latest information about this important bill.

In light of on-going bipartisan discussions in the Senate over the Improved Adoption Incentives and Relative Guardianship Support Act of 2008 (S 3038) introduced by Senator Grassley a few weeks ago, this is a key time to bring members together to discuss upcoming strategy for the remaining months of this congress.
